World's fastest truck: new speed record

Car Enthusiast - A 59-year-old trucker has broken the land speed record in his Volvo HGV, achieving 155mph.

A Volvo truck has broken the land speed record by reaching 155mph. Swedish HGV driver Boije Ovebrink set the record on a one-kilometre run at Hultsfred airport in Sweden, just after his 59th birthday.

The lane in King's Lynn, Norfolk, was opened by Norfolk County Council earlier this month but has faced criticism because drivers need specialist training to negotiate an extremely narrow corner. Buses have been forced to slow to walking pace to traverse a challenging pinch point on the route - which runs between Wisbech Road and Boal Street in King's Lynn. The route was officially opened on 14 March by West Norfolk Mayor Zipha Christopher, but has been branded "unfit for purpose" by locals.
